The December 18th 2014 meeting of the CPUC (a.k.a. the utility/telecommunications industry now acting as the California Public Utilities Commission) was the last for Mike Peevey�former SoCal Edison CEO and �mob boss��a man who has driven the forced deployment of smart meters in California, and violated disability, privacy, and safety laws repeatedly to benefit his industry clients.
As of February 4th, Peevey�s home has been searched by state agents and his computers and hard drives seized. This is in connection to felony corruption charges. Thousands of incriminating e-mails have been released�take a peek and help us sift through the haystack for that needle that will pop their smart grid balloon.

Salt Lake City Utah's Visigoth released their debut album The Revenant King today on Metal Blade Records. In conjunction with the release the band has partnered up with Bloody-Disgusting.com for an exclusive premiere of the video for the title track The Revenant King. Visigoth talks about the process of shooting the video: "This video was made in true DIY fashion. Almost all of the props and costumes were provided by us and our friends, and the actors in the narrative portion of the video are actually all friends of ours (Jason Stock, who plays the Usurper, works at the Wasatch/Squatter's co-op brewery with our drummer Mikey and can be seen on the bottle label for Hop Rising, the Squatter's signature double IPA; Jason Tarpey, who plays the King, is not only a good friend of ours but is also the singer for Eternal Champion, one of my favourite current US heavy metal bands; and Paul Black, who plays the Advisor, is a good buddy of ours and is the vocalist of local Salt Lake City metal band Turned to Stone). The outdoor shots were filmed in Oakley, a small rural mountain town in Utah. It was frigid cold out when we shot the narrative portion - Jason T's chainmail was freezing onto his skin by the end of it! The band performance shots were filmed in the Wasatch Brewery warehouse with nothing more than a minimal lighting rig and a fog machine provided by our buddy Brock Grossl (who used to play in Salt Lake City's now-defunct speed metal maniacs Castleaxe). Of course, none of this could have been realized without the immense talents of filmographer David Brodsky his partner in crime Allison Woest, it ended up looking much better than any of us were expecting! Their skill behind the camera and Brodsky's keen eye for editing are what really brought the project together. Without further ado, we hope you enjoy our little swords & sorcery offering. Cheers!"

Akron, Ohio post-rock outfit IF THESE TREES COULD TALK was properly formed in 2005 and has grown tremendously since their humble origins in Zack Kelly's basement as an instrumental project in college. They released their first EP in 2006 and their first full-length, "Above the Earth, Below the Sky," in 2009. Both were released independently, with vinyl released via The Mylene Sheath. Those laid the groundwork for their breakout 2012 release, "Red Forest."
Today Metal Blade releases re-issues of their first two albums "Above the Earth, Below the Sky" and "Red Forest," both of which and can be ordered HERE. As these albums are being released, the band is currently hard at work at what will be their Metal Blade debut later in 2015. The band spoke about working on the new album, the reissues and more with Heavy Blog is Heavy HERE. Both albums are also streaming exclusively courtesy of Heavy Blog is Heavy HERE.
"Red Forest" was independently released by IF THESE TREES COULD TALK in March of 2012 (Science of Silence pressed the vinyl). The nine song, 48-minute long album was self produced and engineered/mixed by Zack Kelly and Rick Fuller throughout much of 2011 at NEMeadow Studios in Bath, OH. Will Putney mastered the album and Charlie Wagers (The Fray, mewithoutYou, Caspian) of Three Bears Design was at the helm for art direction and design. This album was followed by a three-week sold out European tour in 2012, as well as a flurry of licensing music for games and film. Music from the band's catalog has been heard in Sony PS3 titles, and on NBC, MTV, VH1, the NFL, in videos for Vans, and for projects on the Sundance Film Festival. "Red Forest" quietly became a smashing success. Cumulatively, the band has sold over 20,000 copies, with 3,000 on vinyl alone across all of their albums.
As 2014 progressed, IF THESE TREES COULD TALK began work on their third full-length album. It was around that time that the band was approached by Metal Blade Records and signed with the label. The band continues with an independent and entirely self-motivated approach to their music as they prepare to release their Metal Blade debut later this year.

Destrage debut "Where the Things Have No Colour" acoustic performance via Metal Hammer UK
Bloodstock performance announced
Milan, Italy's Destrage recently put together an acoustic arrangement for "Where the Things Have No Colour" from "Are You Kidding Me? No.", the band's latest album released in 2014 on Metal Blade. The band captured the acoustic performance on video, complete with a string section! Destrage fans who watched their studio documentary will be familiar with Larsen Premoli's work, and this time around, he was responsible for the string trio arrangement for this song. The video was recorded at RecLab studios and can be seen now exclusively at metalhammer.com!
Destrage vocalist Paolo Colavolpe discusses the video and song: "Where The Things Have No Colour has a very personal meaning to us. This song talks about certain moments, it's hard to explain them but if you felt like this once in your life you will find the lyrics extremely familiar. We talked a lot about the possibility of making an acoustic version of one of our songs, and this felt like being the perfect occasion. Our biggest thanks goes to Larsen Premoli who arranged the strings trio and made this version possible. This video is dedicated to all the people and friends involved in our project, who always support us during tours, recording sessions, video making, bullshits and everything that concerns the band universe. Sales Notes: This release comes from a misterious guy with two untitled tracks on the a-side that have the intention to open the project and marking guidelines and sounds that you will hear on the whole series. On the b-side you find the remix of the track "Untitled 02" by the swedish artist Rivet and the "Secret Rave Mix" of "Rhythm Sticks" by G-23, originally released on London based label No Logo, done by the same author of the two originals. The graphic of SECRET RAVE 01 is composed with a photo by Molly Macindoe. Heavily influenced by her father, a world traveller and architect, and her mother, a university lecturer and author, she developed a love for international travel and visited many faraway places - documenting the many diverse cultures she encountered. However, her attention was always drawn back to the free party community and, since 1997, she has participated in and documented the underground scene. Also she has already released a book called "Out Of Order" that is the culmination of ten years of work and a photographic celebration of the free party scene. Only 300 pressed....

Known for his role in The Pain Machinery and Severe Illusion, Stockholm native Anders Karlsson has more recently begun to explore similar strands of industrial and EBM in a solo capacity as Celldod, issuing several limited cassettes over the course of 2014. Those without the facilities to consume cassettes will be happy to see some of this Celldod material now issued on vinyl thanks to the efforts of Canadian label Suction Records. Some six tracks deep, Pulsdisco features material from the two cassettes of the same name Karlsson released last year and those that like their EBM minimalist and without vocals will find plenty to enjoy here.

The main creative focus of Berlin-based Greek artist Tsampikos Fronas, June caught the ear of Suction with the release of the Golden Era 12" through his own eponymous label last year and the eight track Dominion is a chance for the artist to fully showcase his brand of synth wave. Hardware step sequencers were used to sync and control the arsenal of classic synths and drum machines at June's disposal with Martial Canterel and Xeno & Oaklander artist Sean McBride offered as a compelling comparison by the label. For a band that has built its formidable, nearly 15-year career around a meticulous consideration for the effects of pressure, release, bombast, ecstasy, and highest-highs vs. lowest-lows, it is something to say that this is Murder By Death�s most dynamic release to date. On their seventh full-length album and first since their 2012 Bloodshot debut Bitter Drink, Bitter Moon, the band�s signature sound (rootsy indie rock, cinematic gothic ballads, and rousing pub rock shout-alongs) mixes with enlivening new stylistic elements (touches of pop, synth-y electronics, and psych rock) only hinted at on previous albums.
Big Dark Love reflects a different, bigger, more complex side of Murder By Death. As hinted in the title, the 10 songs circle a central theme of love, only in this case, the oft-traveled topic is examined through non-traditional kaleidoscopes: the love of a parent for their child, the struggle between unconditional love and morality, loving to excess. Throughout life, as in song, there can sometimes be a dusky patina of despair overlaying glints of hope.
What characterizes the album is the tension inherent in a balancing act between the melancholic and the inspirational - much like signature Spiritualized or Morphine - and textures both synthetic and authentic in a way that late �90s-era Flaming Lips hadn�t figured out yet. The opener �I Shot an Arrow� leads with a romantically sullen warmth of shapely electric bass and swaying synth chords, backed by a boomy groove laid down by drummer Dagan Thogerson. Lead singer/guitarist Adam Turla pounces between notes and commands with his gravelly timbre, �I had a dream too big for the world/ Get me out of here/ Take me to the edge of town/ To the underground/ It can�t be that far.�
Elsewhere, there are currents of lustrous simplicity: take the pop-affected magnetism as heard in the fanfare of punchy horn lines supplied by keys/horns/auxiliary player and new addition David Fountain in �Solitary One� and Turla�s heat-seeking vocal harmonies and show-stopping high notes of �Send Me Home.� �The Last Thing� is ruminative, driving folk, propelled by banjo, jangly acoustic guitar, tambourine, and Matt Armstrong�s charging bass. And later, �Natural Pearl� scuffles along like a punk rock Flying Burrito Brothers, replete with weepy pedal steel and dancing snare pattern.
Through all sounds and textures, sometimes it is the space between the notes that makes Big Dark Love so deep. The vast dynamics take on new meaning through layered, far-ranging and deftly orchestrated songwriting of the album title-track and �It Will Never Die.� The sonic panorama features a minimalist backdrop of warbly synth, Sarah Balliet�s melodic intertwining cello lines, and seismic shifts from a cavernous hush to a climatic, soaring summit, full of Explosions In The Sky reverb and a chest-thumping low end.
Big Dark Love was recorded at La La Land in Louisville, KY in the summer of 2014. It was produced by Murder By Death and Kevin Ratterman, and mixed by John Congleton.

Even if we encounter the first experiments with this brand of fusion metal on the previous releases of the band, which included hits like "Bad Apples", "Freak Show" or "Saraca Inima Me" , "Dirtylicious" will take everything a step further. The album is built on folk elements, and the studio sessions were done with artists who are masters of traditional instruments, like violin, clarinet, accordion, dulcimer and many more. Together, these musicians form the Transylvanian Folkcore Orchestra.
