LAST WORDS FROM THE CHIEF
Been a long, long time, so it seems. I have been doing this ezine along time - Long ago it
was meant to be a page in the webzine, but the ezine, with its labor intensive email list of
rock n rollers, lived on as a seperate entity. At the height, I had over 400,000 verifiable
email address subscribers back in the mid 90's......it took almost a month for me just to
mail it! (the list was actually much larger, but those were the email's I knew real people
were behind)
Man, I cannot lie, it is hard to put it away. Yet everyday I am awake and active has only
so much time. I have way too much music to be made to be using that time on zines.
True, maybe it's not so "cool" for the scene...but fuck the scene, I made my own with
the Underground Sound.
The webzine lives, as the first of that breed I created, it survives, while so many
become history.
Sometimes, that's rock n roll....

Francisco Lopez - Live in Montreal CD (ALIENCD54) This live offering
marks our fourth release with Madrid, Spain's Francisco L—pez in as
many years. Over the same period we have organized nearly a dozen live
events with the artist. This release documents an especially memorable
performance from 2002. While it may be a little difficult to relive the
evening, this recording, packaged with a blindfold will allow one to
come as close as possible to actually having attended this event. For

VARIOUS - Blank Field CD (ALIENCD53) Blank Field is a compilation
documenting a lives series of music curated by Francisco Lopez that
took place in Montreal back in 2002. While Lopez did not perform his
presence is undeniable as it is rather evident in the mixing of the pieces.
This compilation is designed to flow as one long piece or as individually
as there are id marks separating the cuts. Participants include Oren
Ambarchi, Mannon Anne Gillis, Daniel Menche, Merzbow, Michael Northam

KISS ME DEADLY- Amoreux Cosmiques CD (ALIENCD55) Kiss Me Deadly is a
Montreal based four-piece that has progressed from its more
emo/math-rock beginnings to forge a deeply melodic, epic, and danceable
brand of music. The four songs on ÒAmoureux CosmiquesÓ are sparkling
pop gems that manage to be both moody and uplifting through a combination
of ethereal vocals, chiming guitars, and sprightly rhythms. This tour-only
EP consists of advance mixes from their forthcoming full-length on
Alien8 Recordings to be released this Fall. The EP is being release to
coincide with their North American tour in support of Bloc Party. For

DREAMCATCHER - Holy Smokes CD-R (ALIENCDR1) Dreamcatcher are a
Montreal-based duo comprised of Blake Hargreaves and Katherine Kline
and together they blend loops with an arsenal of homespun electronics.
The band has quickly become one of the crown jewels of the Montreal
experimental/noise scene. Their sound can be most easily described as a
gentle Wolf Eyes or a hip-hop project obsessed with Throbbing Gristle.
Recently the band was invited to perform live on the local university
radio station CKUT 90.3 as part of their annual funding drive. The
performance was fantastic and the recording of the performance turned
out great as well. At this point the band had only issued two limited
edition cassettes, so we approached them with the idea of releasing the
live performance on cdr in a limited edition of 88 copies.

To keep it exotic, we drafted in Puerto Rico's La Fabrica for a
reggaeton mix.
Maya is still busy in the USA, she features on the new Missy Elliott
album 'The Cookbook' which is out now, she headlined The SummerStage in
Central Park on August 7th and she's adding the likes of Timbaland and
David Byrne to her fanbase.
The album 'Arular' is available to buy now from all good record stores.

We need someone who is absolutely dedicated, and I am talking spending
the next year working your ass off to be able to do a US tour in a damn
van, opening for anyone, anywhere, conquering EVERY place we go, and
basically being real about rock roll......then we'll sign big contracts.
We are Crime Lords, so far all I've got is me and maybe a good bass
player, but it's like this, after 30 something bands, 25 + years doing
it, I am not interested in being in a band with anyone who isn't 100%
dedicated to making it work, and becoming huge, and getting the damn
paychecks deserved after paying those dues, year after year, for along
time....paying dues time is over, now it's time to get paid.
If you are a drummer, who because of family responsibilities or job,
can't hit the road for the rest of your life, love to jam with ya but
you won't be a Crime Lord. I live and breath rock n roll, I too have
family and responsibilities, but the stage is my home, when I am there,
then I am right, then, and only then, am I as I should be, plugged in,
loud, and wild!
I need a drummer who is like a blazing fire, a battle field of roaring
tanks, who can blast beat the double bass till the walls come down.
Crime Lords are like a mix of the heaviest metal, industrial, and punk
mixed, with alot of good time party songs, and tongue-n-cheek
references.
We shall be huge.

ARGENTINE MUSIC STORE
Hello, my name is Gonzalo Cipriotti and I own a specialized music
store in Mar del Plata, Argentina (OH! ThatÕs far away from you! IsnÕt
it?). We sell, principally, metal music of all styles (trash, hardcore,
death, grind, melodic, progressive, power, etc), but the spirit of the
store is to be open-minded to all styles of music, regardless of genre
or ideology, so we also have a special interest in almost any other
good non-metal music style, like pop, electronic, world music, hip-hop,
indie, classical etc; always trying to support independent, upcoming
bands.
Periodically, I try to «refresh« my catalog with new bands and music
from around the world in order to offer my many clients a
wide-ranging quality catalog. I keep introducing them to new bands, and
then, if they like what they hear, I order the Cd«s. (Sadly, I canÕt
have a stock of «rare« cds, because, as you may know, Argentina is in
economic default and it is hardly expensive to buy outside the country.)
Pitifully my country lacks of a well developed music industry, and so
lack the people of the opportunity of knowing new bands, new sounds.
Moreover, it is very hard and almost impossible to find rare material or
new bands in the music stores here in my country. We hear always the same
music!!
So, I thought about writing to you. I did this mail in
order to ask you for information (such as Cd-catalogs, brochures,
magazines, advertising material, etc), promotion cd's or any kind of stuff
you would like to send me, that will be useful to know and start ordering
your record company cd«s wanted by my clients. And it is also a good
opportunity to extend your distribution latitudes a little bit more!
Obviously, IÕll be extremely happy if you only read my mail and answer it,
whether you could help me or not (just to stay in contact), but if you
can, the material will be very gladly welcomed. I understand itÕs
hardly affordable sending Cds out, but this is the only opportunity I have
to show my costumer a preview of the kind of music they are searching
for, do you understand? Costumers come to my store looking for all sort
of music genres, and I hope they find not only the newest but the best.

SPREAD THE GOSPEL - Trip 248
The latest Trip 248 rock n roll mix show is now complete. First off,
after working on it for well over a week the results are not as they
should be. During mastering I ran into severe compression problems and
over the top gain which caused unwanted distortions....I believe I
have found the source of most of the problems and will work to correct
them for the Fall edition. That being said, I will only put the latet
show up for a few weeks via Limewire and Bit Torrent, and shoot for a
better mix for the fall. I simply have ran out of time and don't have
the option of redoing the Summer Show. For all the Myspace bands that
had songs put onto the Summer show (about half a dozen of you), I will
either put your songs onto the Fall Show, or add new songs when I do
the show in October.
Once again I believe both the compression and gain problems will be
corrected for future shows. In fact I can guarantee they will be
improved upon....I'm giving myself at least three weeks if necessary
to get it right next time...
Anyone who has Limewire, or another p2p program, or Bit Torrent, and
will host the latest show (two large files, you must have broadband)
available for download, get in touch, tell mewhich program you use,
your mailing address (US only please, I can't afford foreign
mailings at the moment), and I will send the latest
Trip 248, plus the last Bootlegger show, out on CD to you....please
though, be real about hosting the files, I've already said the show
isn't perfect, but it still has great music....it's people who will
host the show that keep original, new music, & the Underground...
alive!
Any bands that would like songs on the Fall show, please send me the
location of the file so I can download it for use in the show to
ugr.geo@yahoo.com...as a side note, please have your files eq'd well
and levels set as high as possible without overdriving things, and
if possible have them at 192-bitrate or better (anything less
than 128 I won't use), poor sound file quality also lent to problems
on this show, it takes time to go through, re-eq, resample and amplify
songs with poor quality, so from now on I'm probably not going to be
able to use mp3's that don't sound really good when they get to me. Of
course you can always send your songs to me on CD if you want...

has signed a deal with Germany's Karthago Records to release the
band's debut album. The album will be
released worldwide on October 4th 2005 with distribution by Twilight

GREATEST INDIE ALBUMS 2000 - 2005
OK, here's the scoop...I'm looking for individuals who can compose a top 10 list
of the greatest indie albums from 2000 - 2005. In an edition of the Underground
Sound webzine (http://rockfest.org/sound/) in early 2006, I will post
the best lists along with the author's picture (and web addresses if poss)......I
realize this is all opinions, but there are great indie bands out there, and some
people's opnions may be justified....
What makes the "best lists"? First, when I say indie I DO NOT MEAN bands who
are on labels that have hundreds of releases, or that the band's release sold half a
million, and definitely not any bands with distro in any way shape or form through
major labels or distributors, or distros funded in full or partically by such. So yes,
bands that are distributed through RED, Caroline, Pig Latin or similar, that can't
make the list. For those who have wrote in saying Slipknot, Nirvana (??) and Death
Cab For Cutie, please get a clue, those are NOT indie bands. Indie means the band
has at least an indie release since 2000 and are not currently the flavor of the
month on some mob ran commerical radio somewhere....the release can be an EP
or full length, unsigned bands make the best choices.
This is very important, you must be able to find the bands on the internet, either
by their own website, the label's or a fan's, AND, you must be able to download or
sample their music online. So for all those band$ into $$ who are just too damn
stingy to put up some free chow, later gator....It doesn't matter how long the band
has been around or how many releases they have put out, I am interested in the
best since 2000 through 2005.
You can respond to this post....you must have a list of 10, not a list of 3, 4 or 5,
and forget about it if you're gonna bitch about Every Time I Die not being able to
make the list...you've also go to be willing to have your mug posted with your list
in the webzine....

OPEN STUDIO TIME
For those interested in free studio time at my place (of the live 8
mic to hard disc recording, mixed-mastered on CD variety) above
Atlanta, here are the open slots:
December 5th - 1pm - 3pm
December 6th - 1pm - 3pm
December 14th - 1pm - 3pm
December 20th - 1pm - 3pm
December 27th - 1pm - 3pm
December 28th - 1pm - 3pm
The two hour slots include set up and breakdown time. If you want
time above and beyond this, we can talk about it.
How it works: I have 8 open room mics, one can be used for vocals,
very small monitor PA, you play live, I record it via the 8 mics to
8 tracks on a hard disc recorder. Mix it off the hard disc to a
digital master file and then onto a CD...
Your only costs, basically, are getting here and providing me with a
CD-R to master your recording. Think of it as a live session being
recorded, gratis. You can have a small audience if you wish. If
time allows while you are here at the studio we can do an interview
with the band for my mix show Trip 248
(http://rockfest.org/trip248.html).
You MUST call me on the phone to reserve your time...I cannot take
emails and IM's...there are simply way too many of you who respond,
and too many don't show for their time slots when booking via email
& online, so it wastes all of our time. It is NOT easy to reach me,
keep calling or leave a call back number, and sometimes it will take
days for me to call you back, so keep trying....
