16VOLT is #1, tour has started.........

Well kids, 16VOLT has been on the road for two months now. It's been very
sucessful hitting the U.S.this time. Highlights would definateley have to
include New York City's CMJ festival where the VOLT played to a 500+ crowd
at the standing room only Batcave, the show was awesome, Eric and Steve
Watkins crowd surfed, and guests like Black Metal Box's Joe Yutsus jumped
onstage for a 7 person jam to motorskill!. Albany New York is a big winner
too, where 16VOLT was joined by the Clay People's Dan Neet, and ALL of
Acumen during the closing song "The Dreams That Rot In Your Heart". It's
been a blast, and plans are in the works to stay on the road until March of
97', So 16VOLT should definateley be coming around to your town soon.

Starting October 31st 16VOLT, Chemlab, and Acumen will head out for a three
week jaunt in the Upper / Eastern U.S., where Chemlab is planning on
dropping out and 16VOLT/Acumen will continue the whole U.S. ending sometime
in early December.

Mike Peoples formerly of SKREW has joined the 16VOLT line-Up, and will
kicking ass on bass for a long time coming!

Look for new features on 16VOLT in HUH!, Guitar Player, and don't forget to
pick - up the new Rolling Stone (Brooke Shields on the cover) where 16VOLT
is #1 on the Alternative Charts.

FROM ERIC SAMMER, Underground Agent, Metal/Industrial....New York

greetings underground....from ny with love....

Side 3... (industrial)

At a recent local show, i was enjoying some of the finest displays of
"drunk" talent when i was approached by a gentleman by the name of Alex
Violi. Later that night we got to talking and to make a long story short- I
walked away with a demo in my hand.

Got home...threw the tape in the deck...loved it.... That's all there
was to it! Side 3 (Alex Violi and Matt Slagle) is a industrial band from the
upper NY area. Their style is mostly of the Skinny Puppy nature, but with a nice
twist of their own. Happily i can say that they are NOT your average rip-off band!
As of right now, they are selling home grown demos for $2 a pop. The demo
consists of 5 songs at the moment, but i was just told that they are working on
something new...
If you get the chance, these guys are a must see. Most of the shows they
play are in the NYC/long island area, so if you are ever in the neighbor
hood, check them out.

You may contact...

Manipulator.... (dance/indust)

This arrived in my mail one day... no letter....no nothing - just a tape
2E At this point, that's all it is - just a tape. To my knowledge, Manipulator
is two people (i can't really say because there was no letter or follow up)
Jannik Lindstom, and Erik Sejer Pedrsen... at least that's what
is on the tape. These two are from (i'm guessing....) Denmark, but i can't really
tell.

Anyway, there's 6 songs on the tape...
1. body of progress
2. epiphany
3. give to you
4. decline
5. bionics
6. give to you (mixed up)

i would love to tell you about each song, but i can't because they all
sound the same. In each song they have the same lame-ass drums, spacey
analog keyboard sounds and mumbled vocals floating around somewhere in that
muddy mix of 80's house music. I can't find anything really good to say
about these guys... i guess i'll leave that to whoever edits this review..

KINDERSCHMERZEN are pleased to announce their upcoming return to the
limelight after an almost completely unnoticed 6 month absence from the
world of live rock and roll.

KINDERSCHMERZEN are Sydney's largest and noisiest industrial band, with
seven members playing a variety of guitars, machines, synthesizers, sirens,
megaphones, bits of metal, old furniture, yelling, screaming, running
around, doing the hokey-pokey and turn around, that's what it's all about...
no, wait a minute, that's Playschool.

KINDERSCHMERZEN like to mention their name a lot, and write it with the caps
lock down so that people notice it.  It's a bit of difficult word - try
saying it very quickly while hitting yourself in the head with a ballpeen
hammer.  It's very difficult.  People often ask us what KINDERSCHMERZEN
means.  A fair question, and one I'm glad you've asked.  It means "sick
children" which probably explains a lot about why KINDERSCHMERZEN behave the
way they do.

Speaking of questionable behaviour, the whole point of this thing is to tell
you that KINDERSCHMERZEN are headlining a gig NEXT WEDNESDAY NIGHT (that's
the 2nd of October) at the Iron Duke Hotel in Waterloo.  We would tell you
who the other bands playing that night are, but nobody told us that, so we
don't know either.  I'm sure they're very good.  Maybe we could just lie and
say that the supports are, ooh let's see, um, Pearl Jam and the Red Hot
Chili Peppers.

We should also mention in passing that we are also playing at the Forest Inn
at Bexley on Thursday October 31st, and that we have a new CD (called
"Narcissism") for sale in a couple of the really cool record shops (you know
which ones I'm talking about - Waterfront, Redeye, Utopia).  Tapes and CDs
are also available direct from us.  Email for more info.  Any Sydney-ites
can see a brief review of said shiny piece of plastic-covered aluminium in
this week's Drum Media, page 70.  "Nine tracks of industrial nightmare, most
impressed with the title track which is killing it on the dance floor at the
likes of Shrine, etc.  All the tracks are 130bpm plus and quite dancable,
love the samples."  Cool, huh?

We also have a really funky website at http://www.arch.su.edu.au/~kinder/
Last year it was voted more popular than the official Silverchair website on
the Australian Music Monolith Top Ten Australian Music Websites.  True story.

RE: Our Causing a Scene Report

OCTOBER REPORT FOR EDMONTON ALBERTA CANADA

Hi, Let us Introduce ourselves.  We are Lori and Cindy and we live in Edmonton, Canada....okay.

We decided for this report we would re-cap our exciting evening (what we remember of it, that is) of Friday, October 18 here in "Deadmonton"  Alberta, Canada.  We hit this little pub called "Wallys" where they have 3 for 1 drink specials on Friday Nights.  Needless to say we got our money's worth before we hit the town.

We ended up at this cool, dingy little place in the heart of down town which is known as "Studio City", upon heading toward the building (in the light drifting snow) we ran into a friend of Lori's "Ray" who manages a band that Cindy knows called "Centrafuge".  we headed up the crickety old stairs, said hi to Centrafuge and made a mad dash for the washroom (of course we had an ample supply of toilet paper stuffed in our purses, (as neither of us have the need to "Stuff" it anywhere else)  as we learned our lesson about the infamous bathroom many times in past experiences here).

We followed the noise down the hall to the last room of many upstairs and peeked through the peep-hole to see if it was the band we were looking for.  We saw dreads, sideburns and crushed velvet and knew we were in the right place.  We were greeted with a huge welcome and Cindy stole the nice big executive chair while Lori was handed a small wooden drum stool. The band is "FP2K" Remember the name!  They were incredible!  This is the third project  Lori has seen them rehearse in, they've gone through different names and styles through-out the years, and this is definitely the best!!!!  We've both seen them live and have become good friends with them through-out the years.  The band is: Paul (guitar & vocals), Brad (guitar and backing vocals) Shaun (drums), Matt (bass).

Their new style is WIKKED!!!!  It's hard to describe,  their sound ranges from  punky/raunchy with songs like "Super Model" & "I'm A Man"  to the Rockabilly sound of "Chevy" (they used to play this when they did a 60's type band and all wore Elvis wigs,......but, we won't even go there!)  We were blown away. It was incredible, they should start hitting the clubs any day now, and will be heading into the studio shortly.  We will definitely keep you updated, These Guys are Hot!!!!!!!

After rehersal, we chatted  (about promotion and Underground stuff, of course)
with them for awhile after they kicked us out, we headed down the hall to harass
Centrafuge some more.  This is a new up and coming band with a heavy rock sound.
Then the beer started flowing and the music started dying down and things got a little
crazy.  We were serenated with "interesting" renditions of "Elvis" tunes as Management
exuded bodily noises into the PA system. This was our cue to down our beers and escape
while we could, as the guys packed up they're gear in preparation for an out-of-town gig
the next night.

Ray gave us a ride (as we, of course talked about promotion and Underground stuff) played the new "Vince Neil" tune for us (after driving around every nook and cranny downtown trying to find the damn song) which by the way was "interesting", and dropped us to meet some friends, where we drank and danced the night away.

As for the scene in  Edmonton Itself, with Halloween coming up there is quite a range of bands playing the week of Oct.28 - Nov.2.  Ranging from: Disciples of Power (Thrash Metal), Black Diamond (Kiss Tribute - Managed by Paul Stanley), Brother Weed (Rock/Alternative), and  Tea Party (Alternative - commonly refered to but not taken appreciatively to - "the Doors")

As for Concerts, Alanis Morisette and Smashing Pumpkins played here in September.  Upcoming Concerts include:  Neil Young w/ Moist, The Tragically Hip w/the Rheostatics, and Hootie & the Blowfish w/54-40.

Look forward to seeing us here again next month, when we will bring you another chapter of "Lori & Cindy Causing a Scene in Edmonton".

Cheers!

P-FUNK at the International Ballroom...Atlanta, GA.........

The P-Funk show at the International Ballroom was much better than the
one recently held at the House of Blues, IMHO.  The atmosphere was not
as good, but the acoustics were better and the GC and Company seemed
better prepared.  This concert was 4.5 hours long and consisted of
several distinct segments.

It started out with hardcore Funkadelic.  Lige, Mike, BlackByrd, and
Gabe were on stage then.  They played some heavy guitar music
including a vague rendition of Purple Haze and concluding with Maggot
Brain.  At this point Mike Hampton exited the stage, never to be seen
again.

During the second part, most of P-Funk gradually came onstage
including the horn section, which was missing at the HOB.  This was an
Old School Funkadelic session that featured Music For My Mother, Free
Your Mind, I Bet You, I Got A Thing..., and You And Your Folks...  The
best part about this segment of the show was seeing Billy Bass play
the bass on all those songs.  At this time, Frank Waddy and a guy with
a shaved head who I didn't recognize began alternating on drums.
Skeet then came onstage and the band broke into their major Parliament
hits (songs from the Mothership Connection album and Flashlight).

The climax of the show was when the All Stars exited and Bootsy's
Rubber Band came onstage. Bootsy performed his early hits and did a
song playing his bass as a lead guitar.  When he finished, the All
Stars came back onstage, but the crowd chanted Bootsy's name
occasionally throughout the rest of the show.  George then did his
Dope Dog thing, followed by Daddy's Little Angel, Funkentelechy,
Cosmic Slop, One Nation Under a Groove, a Belita Woods slow groove,
raps by Treylewd and Babblin Kababee, and Atomic Dog.

They then did 3 straight encores consisting of Mothership Connection,
If Anybody Gets Funked Up, and Summer Swim.  Mothership Connection was
especially sweet because it was an extended version of the "swing
down, sweet chariot" part with Garry's voice in rare form in a
fantastic Gospel style and Billy Bass laying down the bassline while
dancing and shaking his head like a man possessed.

Groove Krickets:  s/t

The Groove Krickets are without a doubt one of America's finest rock n roll bands!!  No fancy shit, just rippin riffs, hard and steady backbeat, and classic whiskey and cigs vocals.  These guys would rock any party; or if the party ain't happenin' I sure the GK's would bring their own!!  Like cheesecake outta da fridge, the rhythms of the GK's will melt 'cha down, pronto.  The first cut I tasted, "Drivin", had me cookin' all the way till the end "Who's To Blame"...if it's hard rockin at it's finest, blame the Groove Krickets...Oh Yeah, the leads are ultra cool too.  Gotta have this one, gotta....Contact:  PO BOX 1828 , Antioch, TN. 37011-1828.  Damn This Shit is good!!!

Colie Bruce:  New Age Blues

CB kicks off his version of the blues with a sonic' psychedelic six stinger el feedback assaulto...From there you go into his world of experience dramatically transposed into music....feelings, thoughts, pain and joy excel in Colie's themes.  Some of the multitracking here might be thin; just remember this indie jewel was done in CB's bedroom, no wait....his daughter's nursery!! Trip Out!!  Some of the instrumentation is really nice on this disc....about a quarter through the 16 song disc, about "Awakening" the artist seems to find the mark and pulls a very fine "Set it Free" out of the hat, very much like classic Zeppelin, a heavier mix would put it on a few AOR heavies...lots of classic music here, great influences....there is not a "bad" song on this disc, almost everything is above top.... pay close attention to Colie Brice, it is a name and a music you'll hear more of...Contact: Colie's Cosmic Cafe: http://www.cybernex.net/~colie
colie@bc.cybernex.net

Princess Superstar:  Strickly Platinum

She revs up like a pink dragster and throws rubber all down tha track.  What a super hoot!!  You get some funked up astro-trippin' beats down up southside with some hip-slop flyin canuck label doin' freestyle, and you'll know what I mean.  Strickly Platinum is da bomb daddy-O....If you ain't there Princess Concetta Kirschner and friends will put you there!!  You've got this funk-hop with a hendrix thing pumpin' jams out the back end, and 'Ol Sugerstar herself givin' it all outfront, a winning combination at any party. Take along plenty of brew and leaves, it's gonna be a long way-out-there kinda night.  So much is urban blight here: Blue beretta, Fried Chicken, Another Day....buy Princess Superstar's disc, really, they do need (want) your  money, help feed the hungry...Contact:  5th Beetle Records, POB 7034, Windsor, Ontario, Canada N9C3Y6

Timescape:  s/t

Boy Oh Boy, UGR lucked up this month and has been blessed with some really great stuff!!  Timescape from Sweden are just what 'cha daddy needed.  Some harmonic guitars, strong vocals and lots o' bottom.....Much strength in the phrasing and execution of the music, nice N tight...what all the good heavy bands from the greats of the 80's to the emerging new kingdom of whallop have......heavy entwined bottom and melody, and guitars strong enough to play over the top with the vocals sometimes, and vise-versa....You have to put Timescape on top of the list for northern european bands to watch; not only do they sound good, their music has some meaning, unlike much of the stuff I usually get from that area, death metal to the core, depressing with bad vocals, Timescape makes around that cliche' with some emotional input besides the fascinations with dying and destruction. The Berlin Brothers and company have what it takes for a good jam... Such breath has been needed in metal for some time; it takes a very good band to open such doors.....go ahead, let these boys in, enjoy the music...Contact:  Johan Berlin, Skogvaktaregatan 4, 602 12 NORRK…PING, SWEDEN

Nocturne

I had began to think the Gothic community might be somewhat redundant and satisfied to repeat the glories of years past...that was before this Nocturne CD came accross my desk....Rich in flavor and poise, Nocturne's "Of Beauty and Decay" is one minute sublime and prodding the next second it's dashing and ripping.  The guitars sound full, with some bite, and the vocals of Jeff hold you there, basking in the fading light, longing for  the darkness to take hold.  The arrangements and songwriting are a big plus on this 4 song ep, with all holding their own well.  It might be that it's time to get out the 'ol pancake again and get hold of some fresh clove smokes....kewl....contact: Old Nick Productions, c/o Mark Blewett, 4319 SE 26th Portland, OR 97202.

Stone Circle:  Beyond Your Dreams

With a thick strain of jazz and funk, Stone Circle turn out a 6 song disc full of flavor...come taste the band.  In places I wished for more driving, but then too I was in the backseat watching the scenery roll by, so it probably was safer if I hung along for the ride from the inside.  My favorite, for whatever reason things get to that honor, is the last song on the disc "Run and Hide"......the other tunes are good, but something about the way the disc ends leaves me smilin' so it must be doing something right. The band is Sherrie Petersen on vocals, Ralph Thomas with da fuzzy-wah guitar, Mike Murphy holdin' down & expanding the bass clef, and bringin it all together is Aric Stack on the percussion side.  I had to listen to the disc a few times before I could groove, but after I got to groovin' I kept movin'....Like psyco-cosmic, turn on man, jam out, tune in my friend...Contact:  Stone Circle 602-858-5015

Flite:  Someday

Their PR says this is the "best (currently young unsigned) rock band in the UK"...Well I can't really agree or disagree with that statement, since I don't hear that many young unsigned UK rock bands.  The band is working out heavily though, already doing over 78 gigs this year...if they keep up that apce and do a new release every 9 or 10 months, well by golly they just might make the Top of The Pops (is that shit still on?)..... Flite does display a mature stature in their music for teenagers.  The backbeat could be a little stronger, but it probably wouldn't sound too 'pop', and with a smooth sound and youth, the crowds usually love it..  There is no surprise moves on Flite's CD, just even tempos, emotional melodies and a little grunge sound on the axe; though at times the guys are pretty mellow... I'll have to give this band credit, they  are definitely going in the right direction.  They really need a couple of strong radio numbers for here in the US to push them over...besides that, they can tour till they drop, like so many bands do that come here, and gain a sizeable and substainable audience...Contact: The Stratfield Entertainment Company, 2 Stratfield Saye, Wellington Road, Bournemouth BH8 8JN UK...

John Osebold:  Reason and Rhyme demos

John is the first real folk singer I've gotten in close to a year. Jangling away on his guitar, singing songs of angst and modern cornucopia, Osebold paints pictures of society, much like his predesessors that excelled in this field, but he's modern with some twists thrown in there so you don't confuse him for just another "folk-singer"...unless you're sleeping you're not going to miss this boat going through the harbor...JO is original in his approach, he doesn't just tell tales, he creates vision. At times the crooner does come out in John, could he be be a Feinstein fan? A little slow 6/8 ragtime in the mix for potential.  I take it Osebold did the guitars and piano for this, unless piano, in it's true form, is known as percussion on this demo, then Jesse Driskoll has the helm, but there are drums on here, so Jesse could possibly be the skin master behind John's ravings...Dave Teal helped produce this and for some big reason that name rings a bell......oh well, the reason and the rhyme...John can come play my party anytime...Damn! It Worked!!....Contact:  email- johnozzy@u.washington.edu http://weber.u.washington.edu/~johnozzy

Cortex Bomb:  DeMode

These guys are super-cool man...lots of fusion influence...CB is from Arizona, just like Stone Circle (or at least these recordings came from the great wasteland)...maybe the two bands get together and shroom....Somewhere over someone's rainbow Cortex Bomb is blasting away at somebody's inner soul. Pluggin them with snappy jazz riffs and psychedelic meltdowns.  Take your dramamine before you get aboard, so the extra movement don't fool ya.  Steve Vai did some cool stuff like this at one time, so did Beck (Jeff, not the other one that knows one song), but Cortex Bomb has better horns...CB is in with good company.  I haven't heard stuff like this in a while unless it was some really good musicians in for a weekend jam...guess what? That could mean the cats in Cortex are da bomb!!!  You could wind these boys up at any cocktail party and have the half the bunch running around nekked and the other half flippin' on the jitterbug.  Classic....Needs to be on Vinyl, 'cause it's collector quality. Remember the really cool Seaseme Street cartoons where you didn't realize till you were older that the cartoonists were on acid when they did it...yeah...now you're older kiddies, Cortex Bomb is your drug, soak it up n smile!!  Contact:  http://www.azstarnet.com/~fishes/mockbwn.html

Nov 23  Sat     Marina del Rey, CA      Brennen's, 9pm - $3

The following is a very recent entry from the "Road Stories" section of our
web page...

sun 9/21 8:15 p.m. (pv & albie)
I-5, near buttonwillow, 2hrs out of LA

(pv) woah, what a day. what a day!  we left klamath falls at 6 a.m. sharp.
so early to get chris to the sacramento airport by 11 a.m. chris woke me up
at 5:40, after about 3 hours of sleep at the famous maverick motel in k.
falls. we had a great night at waldo's the night before. the gang was all
out, and then some, which was a surprise since school is not yet in there at
OIT (oregon institute of technology). we wrapped up our last set not long
after 1 a.m., and then did our "punk band" fast breakdown and load out. the
term "punk band" was derrived from a show we did in las vegas last march,
when there was an angry punk band wanting us to get the hell out of  the
way. anytime we want to break down quickly, we holler, "punk band," and get
right to it. so we were back in our room by 2, and filtered off ot sleep
after 20 minutes of idle after-the-gig chit chat. next thing i know, it's
5:40, and chris is rounding us up.

(albie) this morning was pretty easy for me. i rolled out of bed, into a
pair of jeans and a sweatshirt, and into the van, back to bed - in the back
seat. but i would pay for it later.

(pv) the morning drive to sacramento was relatively
uneventful........until..... chris got really sleepy, and i took over
driving. about 45 minutes from the airport, the cruise control stopped
working. strange. but no real biggy.......we hoped. then i noticed if i used
the turn signal while i accellerated, the engine would cut out briefly. by
the time we got to the airport (10:45 - right on time), the engine was
cutting out enough that albie and i were deliberating exactly what we should
do on this sunday (not a great day of the week to have mechanical problems).

(albie) you can say that again. sunday is for football, sleeping, and an
optional shower.

(pv) we concluded we should take a busy looking offramp while in sacramento,
lest we get stuck in the middle of nowhere with a serious problem. well, by
the time we found our offramp, we knew we had a serious problem. the
interior clocks were both blinking, and the fasten seatbelt light was
strangely illuminated. before long we could hardly accellerate at all. we
felt pretty lucky to putt-putt to a nearby pep boys, only to discover that
manny, moe & jack don't do electrical work.

(albie) bauuwk, baaauuuuwk, baaauuuuwwkkk (like a chicken).

(pv) at the pep boys i called AAA and got some numbers to about 8
potentially open shops. i got no positive answers. several people indicated
that we would probably have to spend the night in sacramento (great - miss a
day of work, pay for a hotel, pay to fix the van - sleep with albie instead
of my wife - puuurrrrffffekt). we left pep boys headed to a possibly open
shop a few blocks away. we were averaging about 3 mph when we arrived at the
closed shop and concluded to park in the shade and turn the damn van off. i
was afraid we might be screwing something up by continuing to let it run. we
shut off the engine, and for kicks tried to restart it. nothing. not even a
click.

(albie) i'm hot, i'm tired, i'm missing football, and i want to go home.

(pv) in the mall i kept calling shops from my AAA list. i finally got one
that told me they could fix it no problem today. wooo wooo! i might not have
to sleep with albie after all.

real time update - we are at the bottom of the grapevine - the mountains in
between the central valley and LA. as you will find out below, there is no
guarantee that this van is going to make it over. our fingers are crossed.

BIG BIRD FLIPS ON DUST!!!

NEW YORK (AP) -- Big Bird, the famed friendly muppet of Sesame
Street, has apparently gone on a rampage. Several muppets are known
to be dead; including Prarie Dawn, Oscar the Grouch, and Bert -- long
time friend, roommate, and occasional lover of Ernie. The bird is now
reportedly holding Maria hostage in a five floor tenement near
Hooper's Store. New York City Police SWAT teams have surrounded the building.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Big Bird, Sesame Street muppet, is reported dead at
this hour after an hour-and-a-half hostage standoff with the New York
City Police. Kermit-the-Frog, Sesame Street Muppet on the scene, reports
that as police stormed the five story tenament building where the bird
was holding Maria hostage, Big Bird flew out an upper story window at
them in a kamikaze-like attack. Police SWAT units brought down the bird in a
hail of automatic weapons fire. Dead are: Prairie Dawn, Oscar the Grouch,
Bert, and Big Bird. There is no information available concerning
Maria.

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Professor and his assistant, Beaker, muppet
chemists, have reportedly found angel dust in Big Bird's feed. Big
Bird was killed by police early this morning after the bird went on a
killing spree on Sesame Street. Maria, taken hostage during the ordeal, has
survived unharmed. Three muppets were killed by the bird: Prarie Dawn (a
friendly, pig-tailed muppet girl-child), Oscar the Grouch (a green garbage-can
dwelling grumpy muppet) and Bert (the famous gay paper clip collector
and pigeon friend). Authorities in the area report that the bad seed was
purchased at the local Hooper's.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police are asking all motorists and humans to stay
away from Sesame Street today as tensions are running high among the
muppets. Many reportedly are outraged at the tainted food supply and
at how the police handled the hostage situation. According to bystanders
on the scene at the time, Mr. Snuffalufagus pleaded with police to be
allowed to talk Big Bird down. Instead, police stormed the building with
deadly results. Ernie is said to be despondent at the loss of his good buddy
Bert.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Violence erupted again on Sesame Street at five
o'clock this afternoon. As thousands of humans driving home took a
sightseeing tour of the scene of Big Bird's deadly rampage, muppets
became enraged. Hundreds of muppets, large and small, stalked the
streets and surrounded humans in their cars. In at least one case, ten
muppets pulled a motorist from his car and beat him with large, styrofome
letters. Police again arrived on the scene in force. At this hour, quiet is
restored -- but tensions are very high.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Police and fire units have been called to Sesame
Street. Reporters on the scene describe a nightmarish atmosphere.
Furry muppets ranging in size from only inches to seven feet in height are
looting Hooper's Store and firebombing the entire neighborhood. Orange and
blue firelight is rising over many buildings. Cardboard backdrops, props,
and storehouses full of numbers and letters are burning to the ground.
Muppets are taunting firemen and police from windows high above the street
with counting and alphabet songs.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Morning light has brought an eerie calm to Sesame
Street after a night of rioting. Smoke rises from most buildings. On
the street, lifeless, crumpled fur lies in mute testiment of the night of
wild outrage. Unknown numbers of muppets have died or been shot to death
by Police in full riot gear. Here and there, a muppet--still animated
with life--can be seen staring at the wreckage, or sweeping vacantly at
the rubble. The Count was reported running down the street crying and
yelling, :"Ten, ten lifeless muppet bodies!" No humans were killed in
the rioting, although several people reported rug-burns.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Ernie, friend, and longtime roommate of the
murdered muppet Bert, broke his two day silence today with a eulogy address at
a mass muppet funeral. The following is the complete transcript of his
address:"I come here today to honor a man I loved. A man who was loved by
millions thoughout the world. Bert was a giant among muppets. His
paper-clip collection was viewed with awe by many of the world's
leaders.Just one year ago, as President Clinton campaigned on Sesame Street
for the muppet vote, it was Bert who everyone turned to for advice. It
was Bert who told us all, 'anyone who can hang as many paperclips together as
Bill Clinton, can certainly run the country.'"
"I also come here today to honor Big Bird. Bird was such a loving
creature. His large size and bright color alarmed many who first met him, but
it was his innocent and curious nature which taught us all to love him.
Bird wouldn't have wanted us to remember him, or to memorialize him, with
violence. All he ever wanted was for all creatures to 'just get
along' with each other. Big Bird has come to a bad end, friends, but is wasn't
his fault. It was just some bad seed."
