SHAMELESS NON-PROFIT PLEAS FOR HELP
Underground, being the non-profit conglomerate that it is, has now been
forced on it's knees begging, for some guilded souls to help us get a
computer to stream Underground Records Radio and Trip 248 accross the
internet. With all this "new economy" crapola being fed by the media, you
would things like access to a fast enough computer to stream would be a
cinche for Underground Records, right? Well time is at hand and we need
your help!
A computer with audio cards, connections, memory and the works, either
PC or MAC new is about $3000 up new. Ideally this would more than do
the job, but when add in the need to do things like mix, manage files,
stream and upload content...it takes speed and lots of space...the
$1500 models, without serious upgrades still aren't there. But, there
are tons of used stuff half price or less out there, so that might be our
target.
What I am proposing is that anyone who'd like to help us, get a Underground
Entertainment Network sponsorship, which has your ads and links all through
out the Underground Network online (over 1600 pages and growing) costs less
than any other online advertising anywhere. Most of what you're paying for
elsewhere is twice as much or more, and the demogrpahic you're reaching is
poor......
In fact, because Underground must have a computer to do online radio, all
Sponsorships taken out before the end of January 2001 are half price.....
now that is nothing but deal....check it out:
http://rockfest.org/sponsor.html
To get the half off deal, just mention this ad and get your Sponsorship
before the deadline!

AUDIOCHROME:
Larry Kucharz
Unit 29: Digichoral Blue Portraits, International Audiochrome, Inc.
Kucharz masters the beauty of the choral style in this recording,
while using wholly synthetic means. Holding true to his Minimalist style,
but incorporating beautiful melodic waves of sound. According to Kucharz
`the style of these electrochoral works came from his early austere 1970's
minimal music combined with consonant new age harmonies and gestures from
Western Choral Classical music tradition.' Digichoral Blue Portraits
has some of his older and newer electrochoral works on it. This is a
thoughtful and creative record. Good for relaxing while it plays in the
background, or listening closely to the carefully chosen timbres. The
record moves at a good pace, and kept me interested through out.
Kucharz's Digichoral Blue Portraits is a thoughtful and provocative
musical statement. Matt Borghi http://theorganizationofsound.com
----------------------------------------------------------------
"Techno Unit 30"
"Techno Unit 30" is a trip hop trance set from the inventive and
risk-taking mind of Larry Kucharz. Larry has taken some deep
atmospheres and mixed them expertly with some hyperactive techno
rhythms. The result is a delightful dance trance set that is
relaxing in a very edgy fashion. It begets a psychoactive
state that is similar to being very fatigued and full of
caffeine. It would feel great to nod off. The caffeine
eliminates that option. This is like some biological
experiment gone haywire. It sounds dangerous and ominous.
In reality it is just plain fun! Larry enjoys his music very
much. He conveys that joy to his listeners. Jim Brenholts

Big Ass Truck
Who Let You In Here?
Terminus Records
Big Ass Truck mixes up a heterogenous broth of Memphis-style funk,
soul, hip-hop and pop/rock. I mean, if you ran a record store, where
are you going to shelve that? I recommend one unit in each genre --
come on people, a practical solution to a nebulous problem.

Finally something good comes out of N'Sync: Boy Band
Revolution...almost toppled
It has been almost three years that we, the fans of music, have been
held captive by the boy band revolution. But, in an instant that all
can change. Over the weekend a teenage boy in Tennessee wrote a
manifesto called "Operation Death Strike" that outlined his plot to
kill all the boys of N'Sync. Turns out, his mother noodled through his
stuff, found his manifesto and put a stop to the carnage. So, here we
are with Limp Bizkit coming so close to breaking N'Sync's sales record
and a teenage boy trying to kill them but neither takes shape. What do
we have to do to stop this dumbing down of music fans?

DARK WAVE CHECKS IN:
Hi,
One year after their acclaimed Negative Prevails, Italys Natron are
back with their second full CD Bedtime For mercy, more influenced by
the American death-metal music ; it is sure, Natron is one of the best
death-metal bands from Italy
Thanks for your support,
Fabrice
http://www.dark-wave.org
NB : Tomorrow, a new interview will come : Wolfen Society, project of
Lord Ahriman (Dark Funeral), Vincent Crowley (Acheron) and Electric
Hellfire Club members.... more to come tomorrow...
REVIEWS FROM DARK WAVE:
ABSCESS : Tormented (Listenable Records, 33'26', 13 tracks, horror /
death-metal) : After the death of both cult American bands, Autopsy and Hexx,
the members of these famous bands decided to create a new project called
Abscess. After 2 cult albums in 1995 (compilation of old materials and demos)
and in 1996, finally in 1999, France's Listenable Records decided to sign the
band. Once again, with Listenable, we have a great release with the third CD
from Abscess. Tormented is always in the true Abscess way, a death / grind
with Autopsy's doom music influences and giving a death / horror metal album as
many persons say, in the vein of bands such The Ravenous, Necrophagia...
Excellent release and come back for the American band with a killer cover done
by Miram Kim who did the Incantation albums. Excellent and cult, the horror is
here. (8/10)
CURSED : The Coldest Death Infinite (Self released, 11'32', 3 tracks,
dark-metal) : I remember the first Cursed demo And Then Came The Dark
Breed..., a very good act for the French band in a way near of Dissection with
a more brutal approach. Finally, France's Cursed is back with another demo but
under the CD format this time. After some problems with their line-up and mainly
with the singer, they found a new member and decided to work more and more. So,
this work allowed to them to do more important shows and in December 1999, a
show with Sodom from Germany but also a gig with Impiety, Celestia... in France.
This new release is more influenced by the death-metal than the previous demo,
we feel less the Dissection influences in this new act but more brutal,
death-metal and heavier touches. Once again, the band releases a good demo, a
more technical and mature demo, very good work, an approach more death-metal
than Dissection and Sacramentum... (6,5/10) ; e-mail : cursed@if!
rance.com
DROPE SHADOW : Blue (Self released, 43'14', 9 tracks, industrial with hardcore
influences) : Drop Shadow is born in 1997 and releases few days ago its first
full CD, Blue. This first step for the band is in an industrial way, mainly
for the music, with some hardcore influences in the vocals and with tons of
melodies. Drop Shadow hasn't the same vision than bands such Nine Inch Nails or
Ministry but they propose a more melodic music by uses of typically melodic
vocals mix with more aggressive and hardcore vocals and more melodic lines in
their music. A good debut album with a great packaging. A first step for them,
we'll see the next... (6,5/10)
ENCHANT : Juggling 9 Or Dropping 10 (Inside Out, 64'24', 12 tracks, progressive
heavy-metal) : This fourth album from the English band is a really good new CD.
In fact, Enchant, with this new one, continues in its own way, a progressive
music influenced by bands such Dream Theater or Transatlantic but in comparison
with Break, the previous CD, Juggling 9 Or Dropping 10 takes a more
technical and progressive way. Songs as Rough Draft or Shell of Man show
this little evolution. A good come back for Enchant with a good album, the
revolution isn't here but you could discover the progressive music for those who
don't know this musical style 'cause the English band shows the better things in
the progressive music... (7/10)
ENID : Abschiedsreigen (CCP Records, 51'54', 8 tracks, fantastic black-metal) :
Few times ago, I listened a debut album from a German band Natchtgedanken, the
first Enid release and what surprise, a crossover between Summoning with more
fantastic touches and more medieval influences. I am really glad to see the
coming of this new act. In comparison with the first release from the band, this
new one is less influenced by Summoning and more influenced by the gothic music,
mainly by the use of great piano and sometimes, I think to Lacrimosa in several
piano parts. With the coming of 2 new members, Moritz Neuner (Evenfall...) and
Maria Dorn who does the female vocals, yes, we feel an approach that is a little
bit different. Once again, Enid releases a great CD, more complex and deeper
than the previous CD, with more emotions... In a way near of bands such
Summoning with more atmospheric and melodic touches, very nice ! (9/10)
GEHENNA : Murder (Moonfog Productions, 31'48', 10 tracks, black-metal with
thrash and death-metal influences, release date : 31/10/2000) : The song
Crucified One about the Moonfog's compilation unleashed few months ago, showed
an evolution for Norway's Gehenna. In fact the band was back in more death-metal
roots ; with Murder, Gehenna continues in this way, a music that is more
influenced by the thrash and the death-metal scene. We feel always the Gehenna
roots, the black-metal played on Adimiron Black (Murder) but also typically
Slayer influences in songs such Devout Dementia or Perfect Hate and more
death-metal touches and influenced by Immolation. Gehenna presents an excellent
album, more diversified than the previous CDs, with more thrash and death
influences ; if you prefer an Adimiron Black with the Slayer and the
death-metal approach. (9/10)
GRAZED : Every End (Innate, 60'23', 13 tracks, death / thrash) : Formed in 1997
under the YSYY name, the French band became Grazed in 1999. First release under
this new name, Grazed proposes a death-metal music mixes with thrash influences.
Not a same way than bands as Loudblast or Massacra but with more old school
death-metal touches. A good first step but unfortunately one of my critical is
about the sound that is too fair sometimes, mainly in the drums. I think it is a
pity 'cause the band has a big potential, just listen the Six Feet Under cover
song Victim Of The Paranoid and the 3 bonus tracks that is remixes tracks of
songs of the CD. A good first step for Grazed, the new CD will be released next
year. We'll see the musical progression... (6/10)
HEGEMON : Chaos Supreme (Sacral Productions, 41'32', 9 tracks, black-metal) : I
am really glad to listen very excellent bands from France, in the heavy-metal
way (Heavenly, Dream Child...), in death-metal (Carnival In Coal, No Return,
Gurkkhas...) but also in the black-metal music (Forbidden Site, Dark
Sanctuary...). With Hegemon, we see the coming of a new band with full of
qualities. First band signed by Sacral Productions (Adipocere's subdivision),
Hegemon proposes a black-metal music influenced by Diabolical Masquerade for the
sound and the structure of the compositions with heavy influences and some
Norwegian touches (Emperor...). The result is a first CD with full of qualities,
very original with a great production and with the French roots ! I am really
glad to see France's black-metal scene can propose excellent bands and releases
that can compete with the masters of this style ! (8/10)
MAZE OF TORMENT : Death Strikes (Necropolis Records, 31'20', 9 tracks,
death-metal with old thrash influences) : New band signed by the American label,
Maze Of Torment proposes its first full CD. Imagine a crossover between old
thrash-metal (Destruction, Kreator...) and Swedish death-metal near of old
Entombed, Dismember... due to the Sunlight sound, Maze Of Torment is in this
way. Not very original, I think it is a pity but we feel an excellent potential
for the band in the structures of the songs and in the compositions, The Evil
Beneath The Flames. A good album, between Swedish death-metal and
thrash-metal... we hope to listen another stuff with more originality in the
future. (6/10)
MOLLY HATCHET : Kingdom Of XII (SPV / Steamhammer, 57'42', 12 tracks, hard-rock,
release date : 23/10/2000) : Once again, Molly Hatchet releases an album that I
would qualify pure Molly Hatchet album. The band from USA continues in its
roots, not evolution for Molly Hatchet. Always in a south hard-rock music with
catchy songs Heart Of The USA, the Molly Hatchet rules are here. What could I
tell to you in more ? Just if you are a cowboy or bikers, Molly Hatchet is your
cult band ! For others, I don't know really, not heavy-metal, not progressive,
just Molly Hatchet... (6/10)
MOONLIGHT CIRCUS : Outskirts Of Reality (Elevate Records, 53'05', 7 tracks,
heavy-metal) : Moonlight Circus from Italy releases its fourth album and I am a
little disappointed by it. After their acclaimed The Divine Comedy, the band
proposes a new CD that is in the same way than this previous album but too
influenced by Dio, Deep Purple or Dream Theater. I think it is a pity 'cause the
5 members have a big musical potential but the problem is we feel too the
heavy-metal influences in their music, just listen Two Shadows (The Prophecy).
A heavy-metal album, a simple heavy-metal that doesn't bring something of new...
(5/10)
PAIN OF SALVATION : The Perfect Element (Inside Out, 72'44', 12 tracks,
progressive / heavy-metal) : One Hour By The Concrete Lake, the first album
from the Swedish band was a good release but the second CD was a big
confirmation for them. With this third release, Pain Of Salvation continues in
their progressive music but with more complex parts and more technical
compositions than the compositions of the previous CDs. The Perfect Element
shows also another evolution with the introduction of more melodic and
atmospheric sounds but also some experimental elements and catchy approach (
Ashes ). A good album from Pain Of Salvation, more diversified than the 2
previous CDs and more technical. Another vision of the progressive music.
(6,5/10)
PRETTY MAIDS : Carpe Diem (Massacre Records, 51'28', 12 tracks, melodic
heavy-metal, release date : 23/10/2000) : Each album of Pretty Maids is a cult
album and I ask myself how the band can release an album that is superior to the
previous CD and each time it is the same thing, the Danish band reach to do a
superior album. With this new one and fourteenth album of the band, Pretty Maids
releases once again a cult album. Excellent production (recorded by Flemming
Rasmussen), great compositions with some catchy riffs and approaches (Until It
Dies), the new CD from Pretty Maids doesn't show a big evolution, the guys play
always in their own melodic heavy-metal but is it important ? No, I don't
believe 'cause when a band has the same statute than Pretty Maids, each release
is a cult release. Excellent and very nice, true Pretty Maids album and rules.
(8,5/10)
ROSE TATTOO : 25 To Life (SPV / Steamhammer, double CD, 17 tracks, hard-rock) :
I read many great comments about the show of Australia's Rose Tattoo during the
Wacken Open Air last summer. Finally, the band decided to record this show and
to propose it in a double CD. I must say, when I listen this double CD, I was
really impressed by it and I have any doubt about their show to the Wacken. A
really excellent live album from Rose Tattoo. During around 20 years, Rose Tatoo
from Australia released cult albums and we are very glad to listen the best
songs from the band such Bad Boys For Love or Remedy in live... Very great
double CD. (8/10)
SERPENT OBSCENE : Serpent Obscene (Necropolis Records, 28'55', 9 tracks, death /
dark-metal) : Necropolis presents one of the new signatures of the label ;
Swedish's Serpent Obscene plays in a kind of death-metal mixed with dark-metal
influences, maybe a music near of Sacramentum, Dissection with a more brutal and
death-metal way and mainly in the guitars riffs with Deicide and Soulreaper (new
band of the ex-Dissection) touches. Some musical passages remember to me the
first CD from Raise Hell and others Soulreaper. A good debut act from Serpent
Obscene with a big brutality, aggressiveness and with powerful compositions. I
think with a more mature approach, they could obtain a great gratitude but for a
first effort for a big label, it is a good CD... (6,5/10)
SKYFORGER : Latvian Riflemen (Mascot Records, 47'53', 9 tracks, pagan metal) :
Last year, the first CD from Skyforger The Battle Of Saul was one of the best
pagan metal releases since a long time and we feel a big potential for the band
from Latvia. Mascot Records unleashes now the second full CD from Skyforger and
we can see they haven't changed their musical way and I am really glad about
this. In first, one of the guitarists left the band and Skyforger recorded this
new CD as a trio, but it seems this leaving doesn't change anything in their own
vision. In fact, the musical way is always the same, as I said, a true
pagan-metal but with less folk music influences and with heavier and more
black-metal touches ; we feel always the same folk feeling in the compositions,
but these influences aren't so present than in the first CD. Finally, Skyforger
releases again an excellent CD, very original in the music and in the lyrics
about the World War I. Excellent pagan-metal album!
, really excellent.... (8,5/10)
SORG : Enigma Grotesque (Scarlet, 41'49', 8 tracks, gothic / doom) : New release
and new band signed by Italy's Scarlet, the band from Norway shows another
musical vision with this new CD. The previous album Among Sadness was in a
death-metal music but this new one shows an evolution in a more gothic /
doom-metal way, more influenced by the old CDs from Paradise Lost with deeper
and typically death-metal vocals maybe near of those of Morbid Angel but also
with female vocals (Lock Me Under). I think to give you the full step of this
new CD from Sorg, I would mention a crossover between The Third And The Mortal,
old Paradise Lost with death-metal vocals. (7/10)
SPINESHANK : The Height Of Callousness (Roadrunner, 37'12', 11 tracks, neo
metal) : After the coming of their first release Strictly Diesel, Spineshank
said the next album will be more brutal, less melodic... With this new one, it
is true, the American band is starting another way ! More brutal and with more
aggressiveness in the compositions, Spineshank proposes a full CD with many
differences of the previous album. Always with some electronic sounds, but less
present that on the first CD, this new one is more and more brutal. A good new
CD, maybe the band wants to forget its first release and to begin a new musical
way ???? (6/10)
SPOCK'S BEARD : V (Inside Out, 63'01', 6 tracks, progressive / rock / pop) : Not
only a progressive band, Spock's Beard is a crossover between progressive music
near of Transatlantic and The Flower Kings but also pop, rock and jazz way. When
we listen the Spock's Beard music, we are very surprised about the richness of
the compositions, the richness of the music. In fact, you can think the songs
are very long (for example, the first song At The End Of The Day is around 16
minutes) but these songs dont bore you, on the contrary, you explore all the
influences, each musical way of the band. Yes, you understand, Spock's Beard
isn't only a metal band but plays in a way that is more progressive and rock /
pop but I think it is a due for all the progressive metal fans 'cause I have
never listened a such band that mixes such musical way with this aptitude...
(8/10)
THY MAJESTIE : The Lasting Power (Scarlet, 54'49', 15 tracks, epic heavy-metal):
The Italian heavy-metal scene proposes very good bands and I think to Rhapsody
of course but also Labyrinth or Power Symphony. About Thy Majestie, the band
plays in a way near of Rhapsody that is to say an epic heavy-metal, based on
heroic fantasy stories and music touches. This first effort from Thy Majestie
has many qualities, in first the structures of the songs that aren't a full copy
of those of Rhapsody, but also qualities in the production and in the musical
environment. A good debut album, not a simple copy of Rhapsody, no, the band has
its own soul but the musical way between both are similar... (6,5/10)
USURPER : Necronemesis (Necropolis Records, 72'06', 10 tracks, metal) : Just
listen the first song of this new CD from Usurper and you'll see the new musical
direction of the American band. Necronemesis is now in a way that could be
qualified as metal with and full metal music. The last full CD from the band
Threshold Of The Usurper and the mini CD that was released just after, were
always in a kind of old thrash-metal with black-metal influences but this new
one is a pure metal CD always with the aggressiveness of the band, but there
aren't any black-metal influences (only by passages in the vocals). A new
direction for Usurper, more in a Mercyful Fate and King Diamond way, with more
brutality. A good come back for the band, I like really this kind of metal.

UNDERGROUND MEDIA
Here is some news about Kenosha's Jungle Rot. The band signed with Olympic Recs
/ Century Media a few months ago and have finished recording "Dead and
Buried". They will master it next Tuesday at Master Mind with Trevor
Sadlor! The layout is being taken care of as we speak, scheduled release is for
January 2001. For Europe it will most likely be released through SPV and for
Canada it will be on Attic. Their were a few rumors that the band had split,
that is totally not true. The band took a break in summer after writing and
recording the new album. After the break came s line up change. Jim Bell was
asked to leave the band due to musical differences. Long time friend of Dave's
ex-Cyanosis ax man Kevin Forsythe was asked to join the band. Currently J.R. is
rehearsing to get as tight as possible so they will kick maximum ass on the road
this winter / spring. The band will gig out in the mid west in the next month
or so. Be on the look out! Thanks for your time.

Hi group and fans,
I just came home from the UFO-gig in Hannover (2000-11-02), it passed
by so quickly, too quickly I would say.
This evening was opened by "Moon Doc", the group of former Accept
guitarrist Herman Frank who lives in Hannover for several years now.
There was an Accept-Medley somewhere in the set but the sound was bad
and the only track I recognised was "Balls To The Wall" (Herman was
playing a white Flying V during the Accept-Medley). They played
about 35 minutes.
Second on stage was Glenn Hughes who I saw on the Thin Lizzy/MSG/Glenn
Hughes tour last year. This time he had a few more minutes to remember
his past (one Black Sabbath track and several Deep Purple tunes with
"Burn" as clear highlight; "Stormbringer" wasn't played this time).
All in all the sound was better than with "Moon Doc" but far from good.
Glenn's voice was allright but there was a strange feeling on stage and
that paralized the audience as well. With the exception of "Burn"
(encore) we can forget about the show. Glenn apologised for being
"stoned" in the eighties and not playing concerts.
After about 25 minutes of waiting some strange opening theme was
played. Finally it ran into the intro of "Love Is Forever" which
obviously was played from tape/sample. The sound was much better
than with the opening acts but not as good as I remember it from past
Ufo-tours in Germany. I was surprised by this beginning of the concert.
Three tracks from Coventant! I didn't expect that. I personally wanted
them to play even more tracks from Covenant than they did but my
absolute highlights "Midnight Train" and "Unraveled" were played
and I was satisfied. "Mother Mary" was the first classical track.
Hmmm. You can read the setlist yourself, can't you? Sound improved
during "Self Made Man"; from then I could allways clearly hear
Michael's guitar - which was in about 8 meters distance to my
position in the audience. Reactions by the audience were
somehow poor during the tracks. Only very few dancing and jamming.
But surprisingly after each track everybody raised their hand to
clap and cry for more! To me this is a strange thing.
The solo of "This Kids" was the first outstanding performance of
Michael of the evening and was only topped by "Rock Bottom" later
on. There were a few minor misunderstandings within the band and some
notes were forgotten. "Midnight Train" wasn't as catchy as on the CD.
At first I thought, Michael's guitar whould have lost it's connection
to the amplifier (what happend to Pete three times) because I couldn't
hear any of the fills which are played above the base riff on the CD.
But he just didn't play them! "Midnight Train" definitly lost compared
to the CD-version. The other new tracks were fine anyway. In general
there were quite some differences compared to the studio-recordings
(also holds for the classical tracks); maybe this is because of the
new drummer and rythm guitarrist/keyboarder.
As usual the audience enjoyed most "Too Hot To Handle" and
"Only You Can Rock Me". But they went completely crazy during
"Rock Bottom", the best track and best performance of the evening.
Michael changed some parts of the solo from what he played during the
last tour but the basic concept did not change. The first part is
played with only few distortion and a lot of muted notes. High
distortion high speed rules in the end. Maybe it would have been
better to play these three favorites earlier in the set. And I would
have loved them to rush into "Lights Out" directly after "Rock Bottom"
- but they left the stage to come back after two minutes cooling down
with "Cherry". Hmmm. The only "exotic" track of the evening and an
obvious one. That was disappointing.

Friends and Family,
We would like to thank you for all your prayers, support and
friendship in the past. Our Warrior West Gallery on 10-27-00 was
broken into and everything in it was stolen. Over 30 one of a kind
hand made basses and guitars. We would like to thank the Music
Connection, and all our friends, who is joining us in prayer for the
people who were involved in this. JD and I are praying that they
consider the lives, charities and ministries they have effected.
That they will be touched by the hand of God that they would ask for
forgiveness and receive the abundant life that our creator has given
us. That they receive salvation and there true inheritance which is
not instruments or anything of this world but the eternal reward
Jesus has given us when He went to the cross.
While this is a small set back, JD and I are excited about the come
back and the victory that He has given us so that the glory of God
will be revealed in this.
The Warrior Gallery is still open and will be restocked very soon
either with the instruments that were stolen or a brand new inventory.
Please join us in recovering the instruments by contacting us if you
hear of any Warriors being sold other than by the Warrior Galleries.
There will be a reward for anyone that can lead us to any of the
stolen instruments. Thank you again and
may God's presence go with you

HALFORD ON THE ROAD:
place was packed and it seemed like every 6 foot 6 Mutant Metal Maniac from
Jersey was there standing in front of us. We managed to grab a spot at the bar,
order some buds and get ready for the show. There were some chicks walking
around with test tube shots of which myself and Dawn indulged making the night
a bit more blurry than it already was. Every time I see those things I think
of Rocker 95. We spoke with one of the test tube ladies and even she said that
the place was out of control, just nuts. Jonathan nudged toward the stage away
from the bar following Secil who can part a crowd to get a view like Moses
doing the Red Sea thing. My last impression from seeing Halford in The
Garden with Maiden was that the sound was muddled until the end of the set
when the sound man got his shit together. Not tonight......
I thought I saw the show of the year with AC/DC but this came very close. From
start to finish, Halford, the band, THE CROWD meshed into one. Every song from
Resurrection absolutely killed. The Priest set was highlighted by "Stained Class."
Halford's voice never sounded better and his band did a great job emulating KK
and Glen. The feeling I got was that if we're not going to see Priest with
Halford, the crowd accepted this version. Everyone was singing, the place was
just crazy. I'll do the JR. thing and recommend this show for everyone to catch.
An absolutely great gig.
