Troyboy's Dance News

Ever heard the term, here we go. I love it, I bet you do too, you crazy
funsters.. 1996 what already? It seems I didn't even have time to blink,
we're back kickin into it again, abd the CD pile at home is getting higher
and higher with new releases - and yes, this month we have had a whole bunch
of new year unleashed upon us - ouch - so look out. Here comes a bit of wrap
up of some neat bits and pieces makin' their way through the world of dance
music. Look out for the hot new meaty album (if you're hungry) called Savage
Meltdown Volume 1, which already indicates that volume 2 is to follow at
some future point. Featuring nine hot tracks, two of my favorites are track
2 and 5, Seal's I'm Alive, the Sasha, B.T. Antraxion Future Mix and Billie
Ray Martin's "Your Loving Arms". Incidentally Billie Ray's new song which I
mentioned in my last month's column is getting some decent airplay and
hopefully will do well, if not better, than "You Loving Arms" and how we do
love to be wrapped in those - thank you!

Savage Meltdown Vol 1 is available through Warner Music - check it out.
OooOh, Baby, a new tacky and tasteless offering from, well, ex, maybe still
part-time porn star, Traci Lords, yeah, you know the one, is called Fallen
Angel!!! I mean, please darl, if you don't mind! Fallen, what? Or what have
you fallen on. or more to the point, well so to speak! Don't bother with
this one. It probably would have been better to stay doing those movies and
using your ankles as earings! Well, maybe

Look out for a hot sticky new thing from 2-Unlimited called "What's Good For
Me", wll that could be anything for mine! A great mixture of older stuff
with a great beat and current feel, should turn this little number into a
top ten hit! That strange little man, I forget what he calls himself this
week, Love Symbol or something, has kinda featured with the New Power
Connection to create a really funky little tune called "The Good Life," Well
it seems life has been good to Sir Poonce, this song kicks along nicely and
is excellent. Really danceable and I'm still not bored it yet which is
always a good sign.

I usually don't like the sort of music bands like "The Presidents of the
United States of Smerica" pump out, however, the aforementioned have
performed remarkably to come up with a nice little thing called Lump, and
it's good as well. Look out for the North American landscape on the CD
cover!

There's new stuff a hangin' from Bobby Brown whose been a humpin around all
over the joints and I'd reckon that Whitney would be pretty pissed by her
now. That being the case, as it may be, everything as far as Bobby is
concerned will probably be OK, becvause he's her new thing called "My
Perogative" and it sounds great and is too, very danceable. It'll do well
and the CD style features the Joe T. Vannelli mixes which kick some butt!

Look out for some new gear from The Bates, the Billie Jean rip off, which
although has been around for some weeks is really starting to take hold and
tends to grow on you nire than having the instant appeal of some releases.
Sounds like a whole lot of things.! Whoops! Of similar vintage is Berri,
formerly known as NEW ATLANTIC with Sunshine After The Rain. This song goes
off - crank it up loud, it comes complete with a real Summery feel, and you
gotta like that!

Look out for Missing's Everything BUT The Girl (well, I must say what's the
point then?!!) on Remix EP, Proce's Jump , Shaggy's In The Summertime and on
that note, chuck on whatever comes to mind and count how many more sleeps
till Santa comes! Enjoy the party season, have fun, and take care. P.S
Please say Au Revoir to 1995 for us all! Troy "Troyboy" Ellis Fox Hot 30
Countdown

My message each month is right here, but I'd love to hear from yours too. If
you've got one, contact me through The Buzz c/o P.O. Box 27 Dromana, 3936.

Now go away. Shooooo.

Doni (our bass player and Zach's brother) was crossing a road in Marion, PA.
We were travelling from Cleveland (RAD show) to NYC and stopped for food and
gas. Doni was crossing a road when a car's sideview mirror hIt, and broke,
his left hand!!! (Thank goodness it wasn't his right hand!)

A Medical Doctor told him not to use his hand or it might prevent him from
playing bass in the future. Dave, our manager, got UFOFU bass player Brandon
Curtis to fly from to Dallas to NYC. Brandon got to the show just one hour
before showtime with no time for a rehearsal or even a sound check!!! George
asked the audience if they wanted a "half-assed show or no show" !! Everyone
said "half-assed!!!" and the show went on! People seemed to dig it and the
tour continued up and down the East coast! Thanks Brandon!!

WE GET REVIEWS!

From Guitar magazine (Oct/95)

"Hagfish-... Rocks Your Lame Ass
Hagfish doesn't write songs so much as songlettes. The bands ...Rocks Your
Lame Ass is a bottomless bag of instantly appealing punkpop tunes - each one
running with a time of lees than 3 minutes (Think of it as music for the
attention span-challenged). But then, it's not the size of the song that
matters- it's what you do with it and Hagfish deliversthe goods.
Recommended listening if Green Day, Bad Religion, and the Ramones
are what floats your boat."

Hagfish was recently reviwed in the Deerfield Valley News in Vermont by Gary
Gottlieb

NEW PUNK ROCK
Hagfish
...Rocks Your Lame Ass- London
It's refreshing to come across a new punk band that's not trying to sound
like Green Day, no attempt here to ride the punk-pop wave. Hagfish sports
clever, quirky tongue-in-cheek lyrics over a driving beat, like a heavy metal
Ramones. The tunes are short and high tempo, typical of punk, but they're
musically interesting. Hagfish doesn't just cop old punk riffs, they pay
tribute to the first wave of punk. Think Richard Hell & The Voidoids or The
Dictators and you'll get the picture.
...Rocks Your Lame Ass features love songs, political tunes, philosophical
ponderings and outright goofiness. It's a relief to number Hagfish among the
few new bands who aren't wallowing in a morass of self-pity. They're actually
fun to listen to. Check out the opening lyrics to Buster:

You're an irritating bitch
You call me all the time
You try to make me mad
Because you want to
And if anything is lame
You're the one to blame
Tryin' to piss me off
Because you want to

All sexual generalizations aside, these guys are original.
While there is a sameness in the tunes in tempo, it is not as repetitive as
the punk-pop that's selling out there, you can actually tell when one song
ends and another begins due to their musical diversity.

Hagfish is strong lyrically and musically, if you think you like punk because
you like Green Day, reel in Hagfish and get a feel for what new punk should
sound like.

HAGFISH MAIL BAG

We get email -- here's a few from our latest tour!

A FAN IN INDIANA: "Ok, so I'm working on one of the more severe hangovers of
my life. My head is waging war on my body and I'm all shaky and shit. My
fellow employees were like"What the happened to you last night?" I had only
one word for them: HAGFISH."

ANOTHER FAN IN INDIANA: "I saw you guys live for the first time on Tues
(Emerson, Indy). The show rocked. I thought you guys were great. I'm so glad
you played in Indiana again."

A FAN IN NYC: "I went to the Wetlands show and it was really fun! I was
really glad that you guys let us go on stage and sing with you. And that
bass player that you guys used from U.F.O.F.U was really good for the time he
had to learn all of the songs!"

A FRIEND IN DETROIT: "Well the show last nite was one of the best i've been
to. I actully met George and he is a really nice guy. Thanks!"

A BIOLOGY STUDENT: "As I was flipping through a Biology book today I happened
to come acrossed a brief report of a Hagfish. This is what it says:
Hagfishes are probably the most primitive vertebrates alive today.
They have pinkish-gray wormlike bodies and have four or six short tentacles
around the mouth. Hagfishes lack eyes, although they do have light-detecting
regions scattered around their body. The feed on dead and dying fish by
using a tothed tongue to scape a hole into the fish's side, Hagfishes have
some peculiar traits: They secrete incredible amounts of slime, have six
hearts, possess an open circulatory system, and regularly tie themselves into
half-knots!

This is what you named your band after??!!!! That is so funny!! Lets just be
happy that you really don't fit that desciption. It's a really cool name
though

Just a girl from Toledo-"

ANOTHER FAN IN NYC: "Hey guys! I just wanted to tell you that you guys put
on a great show and (despite Doni's hand) the music was great (that other guy
did really well even though he didnt know the bass parts of the songs). When
I talked to you guys (Zach and Doni) you said it was going to suck but it
didnt.) I look foward to seeing you guys again"

A BUDDY IN BOSTON: "The show at TT's was so grand. I have to say you guys
did a fine job... and be sure to tell the temp that he was great. I really
wish that more people had gotten into you guys. Although I do have to say
the two fairly large men next to me were having a good time... I was beginig
to get a little irritated with the both of them. Oh well. I just wanted to
say that you were amazing, and the next time you play around the Boston area
please let me know - I wouldn't miss seeing you again for anything."

There have been some changes regarding the releasing of four new recordings from
solo Underground recording artist Todd West.

The Updated Releases are as follows (titles given):

Beer Belly: EP
Marathon Sex Machine: LP
Ambient Chamber: EP
Revelations: LP, final version

EP's are available for $5, the LP's are $8...all on cassette, dcc and special order dat,
with limited signed vinyl available. The first interactive CD-ROM from the artist will be available by
year's end.

Originally, Bitches and Bastards, and Friends were to be released with Beer Belly
and Ambient Chamber. The change was made due to the increased demand for the
Revelations LP (and the need for a final version, first version was released in 1990,
the second in 1992) which replaced the Bitches and Bastards LP that was considered
incomplete as was the Friends album, which is a tribute to all those the artist loves and despises........
Todd West plans to release two more new albums during 1996, and will
begin and complete recordings for six titles (a mix of LP's and EP's) originally written
between 1980 and 1993, in order to bring his portfolio and release catalog a more varied
texture, showcasing more of the music written before the better known albums currently
on his catalog were released. The four new January 1996 releases brings Todd's total of
commercially available releases to 27.

A special DIY autographed sampler containing complete songs from each album is
available to the first 3,000 individuals requesting one...send requests to:

Metal News

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cathedral - The Carnival Bizarre. (Shock)
Cathedral, one of the few bands who cite Italian horror film sound trackers
Goblin as an influence, are back with a new album full of their likable
brand of drug inspired disco doom. Nothing much has changed on this album
from their previous efforts. Production wise, "The Carnival Bizarre" is very
90's sounding, however this album still oozes the 70's throughout. Their
homages to such horror classics as Amando De Ossorio's "Tombs Of The Blind
Dead" trilogy on "Night Of The Seagulls" and Witchfinder General on
"Hopkins" (featuring samples from Vincent Price) can only win them kudos.
Lee Dorian's lyrics are always interesting and those featured on this album
are as warped and phantasmagoric as ever - just check out "Fangalactic
Supergoria" and the "dancefloor dementia" featured throughout "Inertias
Cave." Overall, a formulaic product from the band who has more "Oh Yeah's"
than Sabbath themselves. Nonetheless, their formula is always enjoyable and
worthy of a listen.

Anthrax - Fueled (single)
Can Anthrax still be called a metal band ? This single displays Anthrax
opting for a more hardcore approach on the energetic and driving "Fueled."
Anthrax have left the past behind and are now very much a 90's band,
haircuts and all. Many would argue that their only remainder of the 80's, is
the bands own moniker. This single also features two covers; a decent
rendition of Kiss's "Watchin You" and a ordinary version of the unremarkable
Husker Du song "Celebrated Summer" which is further testimony that every
metal band these days has to cover an old punk/rock band to show that they
are credible and contemporary.

Abremalin - Abremalin. (Thrust)
Through killer live shows, Melbourne band Abramelin (formerly Acheron)
achieved good sales with their "Transgression From Acheron" EP, and look to
do the same with their new debut self titled album on Thrust. Abremalin are
in the death/gore vein, not far akin to the sound of American "cookie
monsters" Cannibal Corpse. Although they have their slow doom like passages,
their songs seem to prevail in high speed grind and blast beats - displayed
to perfection in the blistering crowd favourite "Humble Abode." Lyrically,
the band aim to shock, with mysoginistic lyrics concerning rape,
necrophilia, paedophilia and the seduction of corpses. Although prevalently
generic and demeaning, Abremalin are very good at what they do and are no
doubt at world class level for their style of music.

Hard News -
- Brutal Truth will tour Australia in January or February, look out for two
Melbourne Dates. Mr Bungle are rumoured to tour in the coming months.
- Twisted Sister have decided to reform.
- Pantera's Phil Anselmo will be laying down a vocal track on the new A.C
album.
- Purveyors of true metal, Manowar, release their highly anticipated and
much delayed new album in early 96.
- Good to see Ozzy Ossbourne's new album Ozzmosis, reaching a number 4
position on the American Billboard charts.
- Disappointing to see that no metal bands at all (local or international)
have been announced on any of the summer rock festival bills. Further
testimony to the fact that metal is the true alternative in music today.
Complain to the promoters !
- After the successful CD launch of "Crust", Melbourne band The Machine play
The Tankerville Arms in Carlton on December 8th and also the Hotel Bagdad on
Thursday December 12th in Abbotsford.
- Progressive metal band Hyperion play The Palace on Saturday 23 rd of
December. As do the Hard Rock outfit Cyclone Tracy on the following
Saturday.

Video Review - "Gunhead" and "Tokyo - The Last Megalopolis."
Over the last few years the popularity of Oriental cinema in Australia has
come full circle, with the films of John Woo and Japanese animation
achieving critical acclaim and wide public interest. The Siren/Manga label
has just released two live action movies displaying some of the best in
Japanese science fiction and horror. Masato Harada's "Gunhead" is a boiling
cyberpunk extravaganza, concerning the computer domination of humanity via
an epic battle between robot vs human. The films industrial and oppressive
nature is certainly not for everyone, but it's claustrophobic atmosphere and
stylish visual imagery leaves a strong impression. Based on the popular
animated series Doomed Megalopolis, the second film "Tokyo - The Last
Megalopolis" is a live action realisation of the nightmarish cartoon. It
concerns a 1000 year old warrior returning to Tokyo to cleanse a city by
means of devils and destruction. Director Akiko Jissoji strikes visually in
a myriad of perplexing surrealist lighting and mind bending gothic imagery
sure to astound and entrance any viewer. Like "Gunhead", "Tokyo - The Last
Megalopolis" is compulsory viewing for those with open minds.

APCG's Drummer In Major Road Crash

On Friday 15th December Andy was driving home when a car came round the corner with the headlights on full beam and, we understand, on the wrong side of the road. Andy swerved to avoid hitting the car and then had to swerve again to avoid hitting trees and then crashed through the safety barrier (which, incidentally, broke at the weld) and fell 30ft (10 metres) onto the M40 motorway below. Needless to say the car was a write-off. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to try and identify the other car involved. Meanwhile Andy is in hospital with severe bruising and bad whiplash. Amazingly he sustained no breakages and is alive. In case anyone is reading this and may know something about the other car or saw the accident (near Barford by the Warwick exit of the M40, Friday evening) then please mail us.

Addendum
Andy is now out of hospital (the following Wednesday) and is well on the mend. No more is known about the other car driver however.

The REALLY bad news is that he couldn't get drunk over Xmas!!!
